81-year-old murder suspect arrested in Palomino Valley shooting

An 81-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection to the fatal shooting of 46-year-old Ingra Souza. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office reports that detectives charged 81-year-old Jimmy Lellan Shores in the shooting.

Around 9:45 a.m. on July 9, 2024, WCSO deputies responded to a home in the 5000 block of Microwave Drive in Palomino Valley for a reported shooting. At the scene, responding deputies found Souza suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Deputies identified Shores as the suspect in the shooting and took him into custody. Initially, Shores was booked on charges of Battery with the Use of a Deadly Weapon Resulting in Substantial Bodily Harm and Discharging a Firearm in a Prohibited Area.

Deputies say Shores lived in the same residence as the victim. WCSO detectives assumed control of the investigation. On July 14, Souza succumbed to his injuries. As a result, detectives have upgraded the charges against Shores to Murder with the Use of a Deadly Weapon.
