The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an 18-year-old man in connection to the shooting of a juvenile female. DCSO reports that the man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault after deputies found a juvenile female with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Around 10:12 p.m. on July 4, 2024, DCSO deputies responded to a residence on Little Willow Court for a call of unknown trouble. At the scene, deputies found a 17-year-old female suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Michael Kopecky was taken into custody. He was booked into the Douglas County Jail for charges of 1st Degree Assault, Felony Menacing, and Prohibited Use of a Weapon.

DCSO says a handgun was found at the scene.
