The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man who accidentally shot himself during a domestic dispute. HCSO reports that its deputies responded to an address on Highway 125 near Scotland Neck for a domestic disturbance between a husband and a wife around 5 p.m. on June 28, 2024.

At the scene, deputies encountered the husband, Jose Carlos Sanchez. Deputies allege that Sanchez was intoxicated and had also suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the right leg.

EMS treated the minor injury and released Sanchez at the scene. HCSO obtained a search warrant and found the firearm which was seized. Jose Carlos Sanchez was charged with Possession of Firearm by Felon, Misdemeanor Assault by Pointing a Gun, Communicating Threats, and Domestic Violence.
