The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department has arrested 37-year-old Terry Lee Self Jr. in connection to the death of his mother. According to an arrest warrant, Self is charged with murder.

Jay Koon reports that a canoer found the victim’s body in the Edisto River on December 3. The body was later identified as Regina Arroyo. Detectives say the suspect and Arroyo were at the suspect’s house and left together following an argument.

Koon goes on to say the evidence suggests Self used a ligature to strangle Arroyo to death before dumping her body in the river. Self is behind bars at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on an unrelated charge.

Lexington County investigators charged him on Monday.
