A man is in custody in connection to the murder of Anthony Leyva. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office reports that a man is in custody following a fatal shooting on June 30, 2024. Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau detectives arrested Alexis Bustillos for Assault with a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, Unlawful Transfer of a Firearm, and Possession of Ammunition by a Prohibited Person.

Bustillos is also charged with murder. Around 2:55 a.m. on June 30, VCSO officers responded to a shooting in the 1000 block of East Collins Street in El Rio. Authorities say that Alexis Bustillos, Anthony Leyva, and another male victim were together.

A physical altercation occurred involving all three suspects. At some point, Bustillos allegedly pointed a firearm toward Leyva and the other adult male. The firearm was discharged hitting Leyva.  Leyva was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

At this time, Bustillos is in custody at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility with bail at $1,000,000.
