A 41-year-old Akron man has been arrested following a standoff with Summit County Sheriff’s deputies. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant on James Swisher Jr. on July 1, 2024.
Deputies attempted to locate Swisher at a residence on Elma Avenue in Akron. At the scene, deputies witnessed three men outside the residence. Two of the men remained at the scene and spoke to deputies.
Swisher allegedly fled into the residence. One of the men, 56-year-old George Sport, had two outstanding felony warrants for his arrest. He was arrested. Deputies tried to get Swisher to exit the residence.
Other Sheriff’s deputies and Akron Police Department officers responded to the scene. SWAT, the Hostage Negotiation Team, and the Drone Team also responded. The Sheriff’s Detective Bureau obtained a search warrant for the residence.
Following a four-hour standoff, SWAT entered the residence and found Swisher hiding in the basement. Swisher was arrested on charges of Trafficking in Drugs, Having a Weapon while under Disability, Domestic Violence, Possession of Drugs, and Assault.
