The West Haven Police Department announced on social media that it is investigating a “deliberate attack on our law enforcement officers”. WHPD reports that an officer was in his marked patrol vehicle in the area of Meloy Road and Route 1 around 1:58 p.m. on June 29, 2024.

The officer witnessed a vehicle pull alongside him and attempt to run him off the road. The officer informed dispatch that the individual was trying to strike his vehicle. The officer continued southbound on Meloy Road and Saw Mill Road while heading back to Police Headquarters.

Additional units responded to assist the officer. One marked vehicle was stopped at the red light on Greta Street by Saw Mill Road. The suspect vehicle took a sharp left turn and intentionally crashed into a stopped occupied police vehicle.

Multiple units arrived before the suspect was taken into custody. WHPD’s Detective Division has assumed control of the investigation. The incident is being investigated as a deliberate attack on law enforcement.
