The Carlsbad Police Department is investigating after a man was struck by a vehicle on Friday morning. CPD reports that officers responded to a report of an altercation in the 2300 block of Rue Des Chateaux around 3:26 a.m. on June 28, 2024.

The caller informed dispatch that one person had been struck by a vehicle. At the scene, officers located an adult male injured near the roadway. Life-saving measures were taken, but the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Around 3:32 a.m., officers found the suspect’s vehicle leaving the scene. Officers carried out a traffic stop once sufficient units arrived. All occupants were detained. The suspect was identified as 41-year-old Robert Owens of Escondido.

Owens has been booked into the Vista Detention Facility on a charge of Murder. CPD confirms the incident is being investigated as a homicide. No other details are available at this time.
