A man has been arrested on a number of charges, including Kidnapping, Abuse of a Child, and Aggravated Battery. The New Mexico State Police reports that officers responded to the Presbyterian Hospital at 4801 Beckner Road in Santa Fe for a report of domestic violence and child abuse on June 20, 2024.
Officers learned that an adult female victim, her boyfriend 21-year-old Carlos Javier Apodaca, and their two-year-old daughter drove to Albuquerque to see a family member. While there, the victim and Apodaca allegedly got into an argument.
While driving, Apodaca allegedly hit the victim and held a box cutter to her neck and torso. It is also alleged that he forced the victim and her daughter to remain in the vehicle while he drove back to Santa Fe.
NMSP says the victim tried to call 911 in Albuquerque, but Apodaca prevented her from doing so. Once they were in Santa Fe, Apodaca allegedly struck the victim again. When he got out, the victim drove herself to the hospital for treatment.
The child was physically unharmed. On June 21, 2024, NMSP officers took Apodaca into custody following a foot pursuit. He is charged with the following.
