The Slidell Police Department has announced charges against two former Slidell High School teachers. SPD reports that the ongoing investigation into 35-year-old Alexa Wingerter had led to additional charges and the arrest of another teacher, 31-year-old Shelby Cavignac.
The investigation into Wingerter began in March 2024. The allegations suggested that Wingerter was having inappropriate relationships with male students at Slidell High School. She is also accused of sending inappropriate photographs and messages using her phone and social media sites.
Wingerter was arrested in April. Since then, search warrants have been carried out and SPD investigators say they found enough evidence to suggest that another Slidell High School teacher was also having inappropriate relationships with students.
A warrant has been issued for Shelby Cavignac for Prohibited Sexual Conduct Between an Educator and a Student. Three new warrants were issued for Wingerter for two counts of Prohibited Sexual Conduct between an Educator and Student and one count of Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile.
Both were arrested on Wednesday and booked into the Slidell City Jail.
