Nashville Cornelius Pierce

Metro Nashville Police arrest man out on bond following pursuit

A man out on bond is behind bars again. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department has announced the arrest of 49-year-old Cornelius Pierce. MNPD reports that Violent Crimes detectives spotted a black Nissan Rogue taken during a robbery at the Mapco at 553 Murfreesboro Pike on June 10.

Detectives attempted to stop the driver who fled at a high rate of speed. An MNPD helicopter began following the vehicle and providing officers on the ground with updates. The vehicle traveled out of Davidson County.

Franklin and Brentwood officers attempted to stop the SUV. Spike strips were successfully deployed on I-65 North causing the vehicle to stop. MNPD alleges that Pierce fled from the vehicle and attempted to carjack another vehicle.

49-year-old Pierce was struck by a side view mirror and was seriously injured. Pierce was transported to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he remains for treatment. MNPD says Pierce was wanted on an outstanding warrant charging him with the Mapco robbery.

MNPD alleges Pierce entered the store and acted as if he was going to purchase a drink. When the clerk opened the register, Pierce allegedly rushed behind the counter. The clerk shut the register to prevent Pierce from taking any cash.

The suspect then grabbed the victim by her head and neck before taking her cell phone and keys. The suspect fled in her vehicle. MNPD reveals Pierce was free on a $4,000 bond at the time of the incident. In that case, he allegedly took three cases of beer from Kroger without paying for it.

When a security guard attempted to intervene, Pierce allegedly threw one of the cases at him. MNPD says he also has pending charges from his arrest on April 26 for Vehicle Theft, Evading Arrest, and Resisting Arrest.
