The Detroit Police Department has announced that a 40-year-old man has been charged in connection to the fatal shooting of his girlfriend. DPD reports that 40-year-old Jelani Shakoor has been charged in connection to the fatal shooting of his 35-year-old girlfriend.
Around 3:33 a.m. on June 17, 2024, DPD officers responded to an apartment complex in the 2200 block of West Grand Boulevard for a reported shooting. At the scene, officers found the victim in the bedroom suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.
Medics reached the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. DPD believes there was a verbal altercation between Shakoor and the victim. The argument escalated and Shakoor allegedly produced a gun and fatally shot the victim.
Shakoor has been charged with Second-Degree Murder, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and two counts of Felony Firearm.
