An El Paso man is deceased following a traffic incident on June 18, 2024. The El Paso Police Department reports that Special Traffic Investigators responded to a collision involving a pedestrian around 4 p.m. on June 18, 2024.

The preliminary investigation indicates that an officer had carried out a traffic stop. The occupant exited the vehicle and fled on foot. EPD says the pedestrian refused to comply with verbal commands and continued running.

The man attempted to cross the traffic lanes of I-10 West when he was fatally struck by a 1997 Ford Explorer. The pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

EPD has identified the pedestrian as 53-year-old Oscar Munoz.
