A 22-year-old man from Elyria, Ohio is behind bars following an incident in Hall County, Nebraska. The Hall County Sheriff’s Department reports that deputies responded to the 4148 Interstate 80 rest area for a report of a disturbance.

Deputies contacted the victims at the scene and determined that they suffered wounds from an assault with a knife. The victims were transported to the Grand Island Regional Hospital for treatment.

A 72-year-old male from Eureka, Missouri suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 71-year-old woman from Eureka, Missouri suffered life-threatening injuries. She remains in critical condition at an area hospital.

The suspect, 22-year-old James Thompson Jr, fled the scene in a vehicle. Thompson was apprehended by the Nebraska State Patrol. HCSD believes the incident stemmed from an attempted robbery.

The victims have been identified as Gary and Mary Weaver who are husband and wife. They had been traveling through Nebraska in their mobile home when the incident occurred. Thompson is booked on charges of Murder, Attempted Murder, Assault, Robbery, and more.
