Darquise Montgomery gets 12 years in prison for September 2020 shooting death of Anthony Lee in DC

U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela A. Smith of the MPD have announced that 20-year-old Darquise Montgomery, of Washington DC, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for the shooting death of Anthony Lee. Montgomery was the second defendant of three in the case. On October 3, 2023, Montgomery pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed, according to a press release.

Co-defendant 21-year-old Kyrie Wells pleaded guilty to the same charge on January 3, 2023. On April 13, 2023, Wells was sentenced to 14 years in prison. The final defendant, Niko Hall, pleaded guilty on October 3, 2023. The government’s evidence suggests that 25-year-old Anthony Lee was walking south on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue with a companion just before 11:30 PM on Saturday, September 26, 2020.

The three defendants allegedly lined up across the sidewalk behind Lee and his companion. Hall, Wells, and Montgomery allegedly drew their guns and opened fire as Mr. Lee was crossing Malcolm X Avenue. Lee was struck once in the back killing him.
