Second suspect arrested in child abuse incident that left 3-year-old in critical condition

Update 2 – PCSO reports that the suspects are now charged with first-degree murder in the child abuse death of a three-year-old boy.

 

Update – The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the three-year-old victim in this case has passed away due to his injuries. PCSO says the child died at a Colorado Springs hospital. The two suspects, 38-year-old Samantha Kimberly and 39-year-old Brittany Farmer, will face additional charges.

Original – The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office has announced a second arrest in connection to a felony child abuse case. The incident occurred on June 8 and involved two children. A three-year-old victim remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

PCSO detectives arrested 39-year-old Brittany Farmer for Felony Child Abuse Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and Child Abuse. Farmer was booked into the Pueblo County Jail. On June 8, deputies responded to a home in Pueblo West for a report of an unresponsive three-year-old.

PCSO says the child had visible injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The child was flown to a Colorado Springs hospital. The second child, a 14-year-old boy, also had visible injuries.

The 14-year-old victim was treated at an area hospital before being released. The teen was placed with the Department of Human Services. Detectives questioned and arrested the children’s mother, 38-year-old Samantha Kimberly, for Felony Child Abuse Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and Child Abuse on Saturday night.

Kimberly is being held at the Pueblo County Jail on a $50,000 bond. Farmer was taken into custody at the Pueblo West Home she shared with Kimberly and her children.
