Florida couple arrested after 17-month-old female died of Oxycodone overdose

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of two individuals after a 17-month-old girl died of an Oxycodone overdose. PCSO reports that Crimes Against Children Unit detectives arrested 43-year-old Adela Allen and 44-year-old Kyle Allen.

The investigation was initiated on March 9, 2023 when deputies responded to a residence in Largo for a deceased child. Detectives say the child was found unresponsive in her pack and play. The child was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives say they found numerous controlled substances, including Oxycodone and Xanax, inside the bedroom. Authorities allege that Adela provided inconsistent statements while Kyle said he was away from the residence at work when the child died.

Detectives say the child’s death was caused by Oxycodone toxicity and none of the household members had a prescription for Oxycodone. On June 7, 2024, Kyle and Adela were interviewed once again.

PCSO alleges that Kyle admitted to selling narcotics provided to him by Adela. He reportedly denied knowing any of the narcotics in the residence at the time of the child’s death. PCSO says Adela’s statements remained inconsistent.

She allegedly said she did not know how the child would have died from Oxycodone. Adela has been charged with Neglect of a Child (Great Bodily Harm), Possession of Hydromorphone, Possession of Morphine, Possession of Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone, Possession of Alprazolam, Possession of Diazepam, Possession of Oxycodone, Possession of Methadone, and Possession of Clonazepam.

Kyle was arrested for Unlawful Use of Two-Way Communications Device and Conspiracy. Both were booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
