Update – The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office has provided more details about the officer-involved shooting on Sunday night. SCPSO says Dalton Todd was approximately 15 yards away and closing in on deputies when he was shot at least three times.
Todd fell in the street and pushed the gun away from his immediate control. Aid was rendered before Todd was transported to an area hospital. At this time, he is still in stable condition. SCPSO says Todd has an extensive criminal history dating back to 2014, including domestic violence charges, theft, DWI, and drug charges.
In one incident, he reportedly attempted suicide. Once Todd is released from the hospital, he’ll be transported to Nelson Coleman Correctional Center where he’ll be booked on an active warrant for aggravated assault with a firearm, resisting an officer with force or violence, and five counts of aggravated assault against a peace officer.
Original – A domestic violence suspect has been shot by deputies in Louisiana. The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies responded to 3911 LA 306 (Bayou Gauche Road) for a report of a domestic violence incident just before 9:30 p.m. on June 2, 2024.
A female caller reported that her boyfriend was holding a gun to her head. Deputies arrived. Outside the residence, deputies called for the suspect, 26-year-old Dalton Todd, to come to the street.
SCPSO says Todd emerged with a handgun in his possession. Deputies ordered the suspect to disarm himself. SCPSO claims Todd refused leading to deputies using less-lethal beanbag rounds to try to subdue the suspect.
These methods were ineffective. Authorities say Todd was shot when he attempted to advance towards deputies. Todd was struck in the upper legs. He was transported to University Hospital where he remains in stable condition.
