The Hobbs Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection to a shooting on May 25. HPD reports that officers responded to the 2000 block of North Kingsley Street around 12:20 a.m. on May 25, 2024.
At the scene, officers learned that 18-year-old James Lara-Salazar was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas where he remains in critical condition.
HPD says it has obtained an arrest warrant for 19-year-old Eddie Martinez of Hobbs, New Mexico. Around 9:30 a.m. on May 29, 2024, HPD officers located and arrested Martinez at a residence in the 600 block of East Humble.
Martinez is charged with Tampering with Evidence and Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon. He is currently being held at the Hobbs City Jail. No other details are available at this time.
