Man fatally shot after forcing his way inside his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and assaulting new boyfriend

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says a man is dead after he forced his way into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment. SCSO reports that its Communications Center received a 911 call from an individual inside an apartment in the 5900 block of Sutter Avenue in Carmichael around 2 a.m. on Sunday.

The caller informed authorities that someone shot someone who had entered his apartment and assaulted him. Deputies responded to the scene where they found an adult male deceased inside the apartment.

The caller and his girlfriend were inside when the incident occurred and remained at the scene. Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to investigate. Detectives say the deceased male subject had previously been in a relationship with the female residing at the apartment.

Before the shooting, he had knocked on the door loudly for approximately 20 minutes until the female finally opened the door. The male forced his way inside, confronted the new boyfriend, and physically assaulted him.

During the altercation, the caller fatally shot the male subject before calling 911. Detectives submitted their findings to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. SCSO confirms that there will be no criminal charges. The firearm was legally owned and registered.
