A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting involving the Pasco Police Department. PPD reports that officers responded to a man armed with a machete chasing people around the parking lot of a shopping center near 32nd and Court Street around 6:46 p.m. on May 23, 2024.
PPD officers reached the scene and contacted the male suspect who was still armed with a machete. Officers tried to de-escalate the situation, according to PPD. However, the suspect allegedly charged at officers leading to an officer shooting the suspect.
The man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Special Investigations Unit responded to the scene to investigate the use of force. No other details are available at this time.
