A woman has been arrested after her child was found walking around outside with no shoes on. The woman allegedly took an undetermined amount of Xanax before the child wandered off. The Lower Chichester Police Department reports that officers responded to the 1300 block of Market Street around 6:07 p.m. on May 21 for a report of a four-year-old child walking around.
At the scene, officers found several concerned citizens with a four-year-old boy who was walking around alone. LCPD says the child appeared to be healthy, but dirty and did not have shoes. When the child attempted to dart into traffic, he had to be picked up by officers.
One officer recognized the child from prior, similar incidents. LCPD officers made contact with the child’s mother, Kierra Forney, who was allegedly under the influence of a controlled substance. Forney reportedly claimed to have overslept.
LCPD describes her as being lethargic, off balance, and not cognizant of her surroundings. Forney allegedly admitted to taking an undetermined amount of Xanax. LCPD says Forney admitted that the boy was her and requested him back. Due to her state, officers did not return the child.
Another two-year-old was inside the residence. Both children were checked by EMS before being transferred to Children and Youth Services. Forney was arrested on two counts of Felony Endangering the Welfare of Children.
