Arkansas State Police investigating fatal shooting of man with Zousah Jackson charged with second-degree murder

According to a press release from the Dermott Police Department, authorities are investigating a fatal shooting on South Knox Street in Dermott. Police say a 36-year-old Monticello man died as a result of a gunshot injury sustained during an altercation. On November 23, 2023 just before 11 PM, the Dermott Police Department responded to a call to a home in the 100 block of South Knox Street.

Upon arrival, police found the victim in the doorway. The victim, who was later identified as Michael Carter, was pronounced deceased. The Dermott Police Department requested Arkansas State Police’s Criminal Investigation Division investigate the incident.

The victim was taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab where the manner and cause of death will be determined. Police say 49-year-old Zousah Jackson has been charged with second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm after Jackson turned himself into the Dermott Police Department. The California resident was staying at a residence on South Knox Street according to authorities.
