Woman behind bars for allegedly shooting man who attempted to defuse an argument at Ewell’s Bar

A woman is behind bars for allegedly fatally shooting a man in Fresno, California. The Fresno Police Department announced it had arrested 26-year-old Domonique Jones for the slaying of Gilberto Gutierrez. Around 1:51 a.m. on April 14, 2024, Northwest Policing District officers responded to Ewell’s Bar at Shaw Avenue and Marks Avenue for a report of a gunshot victim.

At the scene, officers found 38-year-old Gilberto Gutierrez in front of the bar suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Homicide Detectives started an investigation and determined that the victim was attempting to defuse a verbal altercation outside the bar between his friend and another group.

At some point, Domonique Jones allegedly armed herself with a handgun and shot Gutierrez killing him. Jones was arrested on April 19, 2024 and booked into the Fresno County Jail on one count of murder.
