South Australia Police have announced charges against a second suspect in a murder in Welland last week. Authorities say police visited a home in Elizabeth East around 10 a.m. on April 19 and arrested a 51-year-old man who is charged with murder.
Police allege that the two men traveled from Elizabeth East to Welland along Main North Road, Grand Junction Road, South Road, Grange Road, Welland Avenue, to Musgrave. The victim was allegedly killed at Musgrave Street. South Australia Police have not found the murder weapon which is believed to have been a knife.
Authorities ask anyone who has located a knife, bloodstained clothing, or relevant items to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000. On April 10 around 1:30 a.m., emergency services responded to Barrpowell Street in Welland following reports of an unresponsive man in the roadway.
The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Authorities have since identified the victim as 21-year-old William Holdback. South Australia Police say Holdback met two occupants of a BMW sedan on Musgrave Street just before his death. It is alleged that a brief argument occurred before Holdback fled onto Barrpowell Street where he was fatally stabbed by the passenger of the vehicle.
The driver drove to Barrpowell Street to pick up the alleged stabber before both fled the scene. On April 13, detectives arrested a 27-year-old man who is charged with murder. The BMW was also reportedly seized and the owner was interviewed.
