Columbus Police Department Lieutenant arrested by KBI for alleged child sex crimes

A former police lieutenant has been arrested for alleged child sex crimes. In a news release, The Kansas Bureau of Investigation announced it had arrested a Kansas police lieutenant for child sex crimes. Around 7:15 a.m. on April 17, 2024, KBI agents arrested 55-year-old David Justice of Baxter Springs near his residence.

Justice was arrested on several charges, including aggravated indecent liberties with a child, indecent solicitation of a child, and promoting obscenity to a minor. KBI said the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted during the arrest.

The Columbus Police Department and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office requested the KBI to investigate the allegations. Justice was the Lieutenant with the Columbus Police Department although he has been on unpaid administrative leave since the allegations were reported in February 2023.

The KBI reported that agents carried out several search warrants to obtain evidence. After the arrest, Justice was booked into the Cherokee County Jail with a bond of $25,000.
