The Austin Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting at the basketball courts near the intersection of East 51st Street and Berkman Drive. In a video statement, Senior Officer Wesley Belcher explained that APD officers responded to the basketball court around 9 p.m. on April 17, 2024 for a report of shots fired.
Homicide Detectives are currently investigating a death as a result. At the scene, responding officers located a male victim inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim succumbed to their injuries. It is believed that this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
