The Chicago Police Department is investigating a mass shooting that injured multiple people. In a video statement, Deputy Chief Don Jerome explained that CPD officers responded to an 18-round Shot Spotter alert in the 2000 west block of 52nd Street.
At the scene, CPD officers discovered multiple people shot on the block. Life-saving measures were immediately taken. At this time, CPD says eight people were shot. Five of the victims are adults and three of the victims are children.
The adult victims range in age from 19 to 40. A 1-year-old Hispanic male was shot multiple times and remains in critical condition. A 7-year-old Hispanic male was shot multiple times and remains in critical condition. A 7-year-old Hispanic female victim was shot in the head and succumbed to her injuries.
Deputy Chief Don Jerome says this was likely a gang-related incident.
