Birmingham Police arrest suspect in fatal shooting of Ingemar Cleggett

The Birmingham Police Department has arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of Ingemar Cleggett. According to BPD, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for an individual in the murder of Cleggett. The victim was fatally shot on March 31, 2024 in the 10 block of 15th Avenue West.

BPD has identified the suspect as 45-year-old Kelvin Jenkins of Birmingham. According to the preliminary investigation, North Precinct officers responded to a person shot call around 2 p.m. in the aforementioned area. Jenkins was shot and transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Around 6:30 p.m., a loved one found Ingemar Cleggett inside his home deceased from a gunshot wound. BPD believes the victim may have been shot during an exchange of gunfire with Jenkins in the first shooting incident.

Kelvin Jenkins is charged with Capital Murder. He is being held in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
