Baton Rouge Police Department arrests 17-year-old for murder and attempted murder of a 1-year-old baby

The Baton Rouge Police Department has announced an arrest in a recent double shooting that killed a 23-year-old man. BRPD Homicide Detectives began investigating the shooting death of 23-year-old Jashawn Neal around 4:28 p.m. on March 26, 2024. BRPD says Neal was fatally shot at the Colonial Terrace Apartments at 675 Wooddale Boulevard.

A 1-year-old child was also taken to the hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds. On March 28, 2024, BRPD Homicide Detectives announced the arrest of a 17-year-old in connection to the double shooting. The juvenile was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Detention Center. The juvenile is charged with 1st Degree Murder, Attempt 1st Degree Murder, Illegal Use of a Weapon, and Obstruction of Justice.

The 17-year-old also had an active warrant for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
