The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has identified a suspect in a recent slaying. According to CMPD, the Homicide Unit started an investigation into a homicide that occurred in the 11600 block of Red Hickory Lane. Around 12 p.m. on March 12, 2024, officers responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon at the aforementioned location.
An adult male victim was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. In a later update, CMPD identified the victim of the fatal shooting as 23-year-old Shemar Dealvin Hayes. Today, the Homicide Unit announced it had identified a suspect in this slaying.
On March 27, 2024, the CMPD Violent Crime Apprehension Team arrested 18-year-old Tyzavian Smith at his residence with help from SWAT. The suspect was transported to the Law Enforcement Center where he was interviewed by detectives. Following the interview, Smith was charged with Murder and Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.
