The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department confirms the investigation into a targeted double homicide on Saturday afternoon is ongoing. In a news release, MNPD identified the victims as 18-year-old Reginald Smart and 17-year-old Camron McGlothen. Hermitage Precinct Officers responded to the Hermitage Flats Apartments on Old Hickory Boulevard around 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.
At the scene, responding officers found McGlothen and Smart lying on the ground unresponsive. Smart succumbed to his injuries at the scene. McGlothen was transported to Vanderbilt where he passed away a short time later. MNPD says both victims were shot multiple times.
Detectives believe three suspects were involved in the double shooting. One was reportedly wearing a ski mask when the victims were approached. Following the shooting, the suspects fled from the apartment complex. MNPD Homicide Unit detectives say they are pursuing leads while trying to determine why the young men were targeted for fatal gunfire while standing near the breezeway of a building at the apartment complex.
