The Baton Rouge Police Department has arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of Derrick Broadway on December 20, 2023. According to BRPD, Homicide Detectives began investigating a fatal shooting on December 20. The shooting occurred around 7:19 p.m. in the 2600 block of Convention Street on December 19.
44-year-old Derrick Broadway was shot following a verbal altercation with a male suspect. The victim passed away at an area hospital. On March 21, 2024. Homicide Detectives booked 27-year-old Travell Winfrey for his involvement in the fatal shooting.
The US Marshals Fugitive Task Force apprehended Winfrey in Huntersville, North Carolina on January 18, 2024. After being extradited to Baton Rouge, Winfrey was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for 2nd Degree Murder.
