Anchorage Police Department arrests woman for allegedly threatening a family member with a knife

The Anchorage Police Department has arrested a woman for allegedly threatening a family member with a knife. According to an APD social media post, a call was received regarding a disturbance involving a knife in the 900 block of East 9th Avenue around 8:37 p.m. on March 14, 2024. Officers determined that 39-year-old Shelly A. M. Mazon had gotten into a verbal altercation with a family member and threatened them with a kitchen knife.

The victim managed to exit the residence safely. Officers and negotiators tried to contact Mazon who reportedly barricaded herself inside an upstairs room and refused to speak to authorities. Officers obtained a search warrant for the residence and an arrest warrant for Shelly Mazon. APD used a drone to search the house and ensure Mazon was the only person inside.

APD says Mazon ignored less-lethal commands and K9 warnings. K9 Sig was released and bit the suspect on the upper part of her arm allowing officers to take the suspect into custody. Mazon was treated at an area hospital before being transported to Hiland Mountain Correction Center. She has been remanded on charges of Assault III and Resisting Arrest.
