The Wilmington Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection to a fatal crash in February. According to WPD, officers responded to a traffic crash in the area of Cardinal Drive and Eastwood Road around 11:15 a.m. on February 28, 2024. One of the drivers, 88-year-old Claudine Coleman, sustained injuries and was transported to Novant Regional Medical Center.

Coleman succumbed to her injuries on March 9, 2024. Following an investigation by the WPD Traffic Enforcement Unit, WPD says it was discovered that the other driver, 31-year-old Timothy Maybaum, was driving in the opposite direction of Coleman. He allegedly left his travel lane and collided head-on with the victim.

The district attorney’s office was consulted and it was determined there was enough evidence to obtain a warrant for Maybaum’s arrest charging him with involuntary manslaughter. He was taken into custody and booked into the New Hanover County Detention Center.
