The DC Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a suspect in a shooting earlier today. According to MPD, the victim was in the 3900 block of Minnesota Avenue NE when he had an interaction with the suspect around 11:47 a.m. on March 20, 2024. The suspect reportedly pulled out a gun and a physical altercation began.

At some point during the altercation, the suspect shot the victim and fled the scene in a vehicle. Responding officers recovered a firearm from the scene. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A short time later, officers witnessed the suspect fleeing and attempted a traffic stop.

When the suspect fled, a pursuit was initiated. The suspect vehicle stopped in the 1800 block of Bladensburg Road NE and the suspect was detained without incident. 20-year-old Traquon McCalip is charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Fleeing from Law Enforcement Officers, and Carrying a Pistol without a License.
