The Hollister Police Department is investigating an attempted murder. According to HPD, police were dispatched to a report of a woman driving with a male clinging to the hood of her vehicle on March 18, 2024. Authorities say the male was thrown from the vehicle sustaining life-threatening injuries. A suspect was arrested.
Around 6:40 p.m., officers responded to the area of 4th Street and then Central Avenue. At the scene, responding officers located the victim who had fallen from the vehicle and was lying in the roadway. The victim was transported by air ambulance to Natividad Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses provided officers with a description of the suspect vehicle as well as a license plate number. A short time later, officers received an alert on the Gilroy FLOCK system that the suspect vehicle had just been on cameras. A California Highway Patrol Officer located the suspect vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 101 and stopped it in Morgan Hill.
HPD officers responded and took the driver into custody. The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old April Garcia who was booked into the San Benito County Jail on multiple charges, including attempted murder and robbery. HPD says it was determined that there was some type of transaction between the suspect and the victim.
When the suspect drove away with the victim’s money, the victim reportedly jumped onto the hood to try to stop her. The suspect is accused of driving three-quarters of a mile at high speeds before the victim fell to the pavement.
