The Spokane Police Department has announced that the mother of a teenager in jail for the murder of a 76-year-old man has been booked for murder as well. On March 5, 2024, 42-year-old Dane K. Hulings was booked into the Spokane County Jail for 2nd Degree murder in the slaying of 76-year-old Alvin Gallegos.

Hulings was taken into custody in Humboldt County, California in February. Two SPD Major Crimes detectives traveled to California and transported Hulings back to Spokane. On April 26, 2023, SPD officers responded to a suspicious death at an apartment in the 2600 block of East 29th Avenue.

At the scene, they learned that Gallegos had been fatally stabbed. Dane Hulings and her 18-year-old son Caleb Hulings have been arrested for the murder. Caleb Hulings was arrested for 2nd Degree Murder on January 30, 2024.
