Chula Vista Police Department investigating stabbing at Palomar Trolley Station

Update 2 – The Chula Vista Police Department has provided an update. Around 3:42 p.m., CVPD dispatch received a 911 call for service from a victim who watched his vehicle being stolen in the 500 block of Moss Street in Chula Vista.

The victim followed his vehicle and called police. Patrol officers located and stopped the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Tulio Gasca who was placed under arrest for vehicle theft. Investigators responded and later arrested Gasca for the stabbing at the Palomar Trolley. Gasca was booked into the San Diego County Jail for attempted murder and vehicle theft related charges.

Update – CVPD said the person of interest has been located.

Original Story – The Chula Vista Police Department is investigating after a man who was sleeping at the Palomar Trolley Station was stabbed. Around 2:20 a.m. on March 2, 2024, CVPD officers were conducting extra patrols of the trolley station at 1265 Industrial Boulevard.

While driving through the lot, officers found a 36-year-old man on the ground covered in blood. They determined that the man had been stabbed numerous times, but was still conscious and able to speak with them. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Based on the initial investigation, CVPD believes the unhoused victim was sleeping on the premises when he was attacked. It is believed that the attack was unprovoked. Authorities are searching for 34-year-old Tulio Gasca who is believed to be the person captured in security footage at the Palomar Trolley Station.
