Spokane Police arrest 8-time convicted felon in connection to drive-by shooting

An 8-time convicted felon is heading back to jail after being arrested in connection to a recent drive-by shooting. Around 7:39 a.m. on March 1, 2024, officers with the Spokane Police Department responded to the area of Freya and Wellesley for a report of a drive-by shooting.

Officers found a bullet hole in the victim’s vehicle from a reported road rage incident. Officers were given a description of the suspect as well as his vehicle. The vehicle was located in the area of 3900 West Olympic and the suspect was detained.

SPD said the officers determined the suspect had discharged a firearm. 44-year-old Keith J. Butters was arrested and booked on 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Drive by Shooting. The vehicle was seized pending a search warrant.

SPD said Butters is an 8-time convicted felon. His most recent convictions are for 2nd degree burglary and possession of a controlled substance.
