Buchanan County Sheriff Identifies Driver Apparently Fell Asleep, Crashed & Killed 12+ Cows

A Stacyville, Iowa man was cited for Failure to Maintain Control following an accident near the 50-mile marker of 1380. On February 23, 2024, Delbert Miller was operating a 2005 Kenworth semi-truck before 3:00 a.m. when he apparently fell asleep behind the wheel. The truck struck a guardrail and cement bridge rail before overturning and going off the bridge into Lime Creek.

Immediately following the accident, Michael McAlister operating a 2015 Dodge Ram 3500 struck debris in the roadway. The truck sustained about $1,500 in damage.

Miller was hauling a cattle trailer with about 60 cows, between 12 and 15 of which were killed in the crash.
