Baton Rouge Police make an arrest in the Washington Avenue shooting

The Baton Rouge Police Department has announced an arrest in a shooting on Washington Avenue. On February 10, 2024 around 11:50 a.m., BRPD detectives were investigating the fatal shooting of 18-year-old David Atkins who was killed in the 2600 block of Washington Avenue.

Atkins passed away at the scene. On February 12, 2024, 19-year-old Travelle Burris and two juveniles were arrested for their involvement in the shooting. BRPD said police believe robbery may be the motive in the shooting.

Burris was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. The juveniles were booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Detention. They were charged with 1st Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, and Illegal Use of a Weapon.
