Sumter Police investigating separate overnight shootings that killed one and injured two

The Sumter Police Department is working to gather information about two separate overnight shootings. According to a social media post from SPD, the body of 35-year-old Westley Rodregus Vaughn was found after officers received a call about a missing person around 9 a.m.

The victim was found outside in the 100 block of Carver Street with multiple gunshot wounds. SPD says Vaughn was last seen walking from his home to a nearby convenience store on Saturday night. In another incident, SPD officers responded to a shots fired call after 10 p.m. when two victims were dropped off at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

A 21-year-old male victim and a 23-year-old male victim said they were walking in the Purdy Street and South Guignard Drive area when they were struck by gunfire. One victim was transported to a Columbia hospital, but both are expected to survive. No further details are available at this time.
