A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer was injured in a shooting on Friday evening. Around 4:57 p.m. on February 2, 2024, dispatch received a report of a suicidal male trying to walk into traffic on the freeway in the area of US 95 and Charleston Boulevard.
An officer arrived and attempted to make contact with the male. A foot pursuit ensued. When the officer was able to contact the male, a violent struggle began, according to authorities. At one point, the officer’s weapon was discharged hitting the officer.
The male was taken into custody. The officer was taken to UMC Hospital where he is in stable condition. The male was also taken to the hospital in stable condition. A second officer was injured in a traffic accident while responding to the scene. The officer was transported to UMC with minor injuries.
