The Spokane Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in the death of a three-year-old. Around 11:30 p.m. on January 31, 2024, SPD officers responded to a report of a child not breathing in the 5900 block of North Ash Street. At the scene, life-saving efforts were made but the child was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Major Crimes Unit responded to investigate the death. MCU detectives say they established probable cause to arrest 38-year-old John L. Jones who is charged with 2nd Degree Murder. Jones was arrested in Las Vegas on February 1, 2024 and will be extradited to Spokane.
