Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies involved in deputy-involved shooting after finding endangered 11-year-old girl

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office announced deputies were involved in a deputy-involved shooting late Thursday night. According to a social media post from KCSO, the investigation into the disappearance of 11-year-old Aubriauna “Bree” Mays led detectives to the Tennessee-Georgia line late Thursday.

Sometimes after 1 a.m. on February 2, 2024, authorities located the suspect and the endangered child. The suspect allegedly failed to comply with law enforcement demands and attempted to use his vehicle as a weapon by running over at least three deputies.

KCSO said this caused the officers and detectives to fire their weapons hitting the suspect. The suspect was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The investigation is active and ongoing. The TBI will be leading the investigation.
