The Knoxville Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Thursday night near North Hembree Street and Linden Avenue. Around 5:55 p.m. on February 1, 2024, officers and detectives responded to a report of a shooting that happened in the alley behind Jarnigan & Sons Mortuary.

At the scene, officers found a male gunshot victim. The victim was transported to UT Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. At this time, KPD believes the victim and suspect were involved in a verbal dispute. At some point, the suspect fired at the victim hitting him at least once. The suspect fled the scene following the shooting.
