Metropolitan Police have announced that two teenagers have been convicted of murdering 17-year-old Chima Osuji in Chingford. According to a media release from the Metropolitan Police, detectives used detailed forensic work to prove conclusively that the two teens were responsible for the attack. Both teens were 16 at the time and cannot be named.
An investigation was initiated after police responded to a call on April 10, 2024. Authorities found Chima collapsed on the pavement on Longshaw Road suffering stab wounds. The victim passed away at the scene. Detectives say they used CCTV to quickly determine that two males had carried out the attack.
Chima was with another teen who managed to flee unharmed. The uninjured teen helped police identify one of the attackers. A sword was recovered from the scene. Although it was not used to inflict the fatal injuries, it contained a fingerprint of the other teenage attacker. Both teen suspects were arrested within three days of the attack.
The teens were found guilty of murder on January 22, 2024. They will be sentenced on March 1, 2024.
