Update 2 – The Wilbraham Police Department has provided an update in the case. According to WPD, 53-year-old Michael Ortega was the individual inside the house. The other occupants escaped through a second-floor window onto the lower roof before being helped by police officers. A 29-year-old Wilbraham Police Officer suffered a gunshot wound.
The officer was treated for serious injuries and is currently in stable condition. Ortega was later found inside the home with gunshot injuries. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Ortega is booked with Assault with Intent to Murder and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
Update – MSP said the officer shooting suspect had been taken into custody.
Original Story – The Massachusetts State Police was requested to help around 8:40 p.m. on Saturday evening after officers exchanged gunfire with a suspect at a home on Old Carriage Drive in Wilbraham. A Wilbraham Police officer was hit by gunfire and has been taken to an area hospital for treatment.
It is believed that the suspect is still inside the home. The suspect’s condition is not known at this time. According to MSP, authorities have established a perimeter around the residence and a roadblock has been set up to isolate Old Carriage Drive.
Authorities are attempting to make contact with the suspect and resolve the situation.
