Broadwater County Sheriff’s Office deputy involved in crash with fleeing suspect

A Broadwater County Sheriff’s Office deputy was struck by a fleeing suspect on Thursday. According to a social media post from BCSO, a pursuit was started with the Montana Highway Patrol around 3:15 p.m. on January 18, 2024. The suspect fled south on Highway 287/12 before a Broadwater County Deputy responded to assist.

Once the deputy saw the suspect, he activated his emergency lights. BCSO said the suspect swerved towards the deputy who attempted to avoid the collision. The deputy’s vehicle was struck head-on while the suspect was traveling at a high rate of speed.

The deputy exited the vehicle on his own accord before being transported to the hospital for treatment. He was later released with minor injuries. The suspect was pronounced deceased following the collision.
